The Online B.A. in Sociology offers a core curriculum in sociological theory and methods followed by topical area courses into which ethnicity, gender, and socio-economic status issues are embedded. Through this program of study, successful students will understand, integrate and apply sociological theory and research methods to human socio-cultural and structural issues at global, societal, organizational and small group levels. A required senior capstone will provide students with the opportunity to integrate theory, method and substantive problem or issue analysis in an empirical research project.
The first five courses of the B.A. in Sociology are core courses, focusing on the development of a solid foundation in sociological theory and research methods. Students can supplement these courses with first and second level topical courses. An additional requirement of two upper division substantive courses augments breadth and depth in contemporary and classical topical areas. All students will be required to take one course in inequality.
The Online B.A. in Sociology is linked to the basic knowledge contained in the General Education Curriculum. Using state-of-the-art technology, the concentration prepares students for professional success and personal growth in this rapidly changing world.
